Growing in Charlotte Area

This week CompuChild has been in the Charlotte area working with our newest franchisee, Karen Archer from Mooresville, North Carolina.  She is starting off with a busy schedule that she is taking over from Bill Ward, who has moved and started CompuChild in Cleveland, Gaston, and Lincoln counties just west of Charlotte.

Her reception at local child care centers and preschools has been very well received.  She will be teaching computer classes in Davie, Forsyth, Iredell, Rowan, Wilkes and Yadkin.  Quite a large area to cover.  So large, she is looking to add instructors immediately to help meet the demand in the area.

We are very excited to have Karen join the CompuChild community and look forward to watching her business expand.  CompuChild still has room for more franchisees in the Charlotte area and other select markets across the US.  Learn more at  http://www.compuchild.com/franchise.htm

Men in Early Childhood Education

Early childhood education has long been dominated by women.  According to the National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC), women account for 97% of pre-K teachers.  While most agree that men need to play a larger role in the education of our young ones, it can be challenging for many day care centers and preschools to attract and retain men.

For CompuChild, we have had great success.  We have many men that not only own a CompuChild business, but teach our technology enrichment classes to preschoolers.   I recently spoke with a new franchisee concerned about how day care centers would react to having a male instructor.  He was quite surprised by my response.  Not only would a man be accepted, he would most likely be a welcome addition to any early childhood center or preschool.

Here’s a great example.  Bill Ward has been teaching computers and technology classes to children since 1999.  His students and the director’s at the centers where he teaches absolutely adore him.  Martha Pappas, Childcare Director from Clemmons Moravian Child Care in Clemmons, NC recently wrote to me regarding Bill’s involvement at her center.  “Child Care is a business so dominated by women.  It has been valuable and enriching for the children to have a positive, warm and intelligent adult male role model in their world.”  Agreed!

We need more men in early childhood education and CompuChild gives men a great opportunity to get involved in early childhood education.  Plus, our franchise system offers access to network of other men already in the business.

Week of the Young Child

As part of the national Week of the Young Child celebrated across the country, CompuChild USA is honoring young children and all those who make a difference in children’s lives.  CompuChild is recognizing Ms. Wendy Sidebottom from Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, as Instructor of the Year and has made a contribution to Prevent Child Abuse – New Jersey, a children’s charity selected by Sidebottom.

Week of the Young Child, sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country to bring awareness to the needs of young children.
